The Mark Tiner Memorial Scholarships were established by a bond between two brothers: Mark & Sean Tiner.

Mark & Sean Tiner grew up in Laguna Beach, CA.  Sean excelled in water polo and after graduating from Laguna Beach High School, he played at Brown University and earned All-Ivy Academic honors. Meanwhile, Mark thrived on the volleyball court, earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Laguna Beach Presbyterian Church.

As Mark wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps and attend a four-year university, he dreamed of attending the University of Southern California. Mark worked hard to pursue his dream by volunteering in his free time and developing his athletic talents on the volleyball court.

Tragically, Mark's dream was cut short in 2004. During his sophomore year at Laguna Beach High School, Mark and his friend passed away in a nonalcoholic related automobile accident. Sean, his family and community were devastated.

In an effort to keep Mark’s dream of higher education alive, Sean established various college scholarships in Mark's name to help provide finance assistance to graduating high school seniors.

Today, with the support of close help of friends, family and donors, Sean has awarded three annual college scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Mark's dream lives on in these recipients who have gone on to attend prestigious colleges, such as Harvard, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles and the University of Southern California.

Over the years, more than $30,000 in scholarships of $1,000 increments have been awarded from endowed funds to recipients of the Mark Tiner Memorial Foundation, "Big Tiny" Spirit Award and Mark Tiner Financial Needs Scholarship, a fund of The Orange County Community Foundation.

With your help, these scholarships to continue to impact the lives of future generations to come.
